Wir haben hier keine bleibende Stadt - our true home is not here

Even if there is enough to do, I cannot but think of the victims of the plane crash a few days ago. Every title of my conferences for which I am still looking for participants, seems to relate to this tragedy somehow. "Wir haben hier keine bleibende Stadt" means we have no true home here. It is a line from a hymn that we wil sing together in our encounter in Romania. What does this mean in the face of such a tragedy, in the face all the tragedies we hear and read about, all the dead due to war and terror, all the refugees longing for a place to stay, to call home. We all long for that. And even if we belogn to the happy one who have a home and can live there, desasters like this plane crash remind us of how fragile our lives are. We are all still not at home, still on our way to our true home - with God. That may not take away the pain over the loss of a loved one but it may be a comfort - I hope.
