The
first Sunday in Advent is really early this year, so that all the
Christmas decorations feel actually quite right, on time and
appropriate. Anyway, a little extra light is much appreciated in
November.
One
of my favorite hymns in Advent is by Jochen Klepper "The night is far
advancing, the day cannot be far" is comforting, even if or especially
when it is true that "the shades of night descend on the guilt and pain
we face" "God dwells in darkness" and so he is with those who are cannot
find pleasure in festive lights and Christmas markets, those who are
unhappy or lonely, refugees or homeless. I wish for us all that we may
be a light in darkness every once in a while. God's presence isn't
always easy to feel, espcially in times of despair. So it may be helpful
to feel the presence of a loving person instead.
A Happy time of Advent to you all!
