Our most
recent Bible Dialogue was all about Truth and Trust. In English, the two words
even sound like they are close. And indeed one often needs the other. Who can
we trust nowadays and what do each of us mean by truth?
Surprisingly
and despite all fake news, this is still relatively easy in regard to the
media, because the sincere media do exist and we have a clear idea which paper
or website or TV-show is based on research and follows the press codex. We just
need to look closely and ask questions to realize who wants to inform and who
is only after clicks and sales.
It is more
complicated with faith. Religions have for a long time claimed to be the sole proprietors
of the one and only truth and some still do and so ostracize people and lay
grounds for violence and war. But isn’t religion where we look for truth?
Something to rely on absolutely? If we may re-interpret everything again and
again, will it not become random?
Answers
once and for all, we could not find in our group of participants from Germany Poland
and Switzerland. But to keep talking, to keep listening to each other, to keep
asking questions, that seems to be a good path to at least take us a little
closer to the truth. And that is one thing, the European Bible Dialogues are
good for.
