Postmodern Worship - Mission impossible?

I sat together for many hours with the conference team of the European Study Conference for theology students (July 25-29,2013 in Berlin), discussing about possible and necessary reforms of worship. Is the Sunday morning Worship a tradition of the past, no longer relevant to people's spirituality in a diverse and individualistic society? Can't we worship just as well at home and alone? What about Holy Communion?
In many countries, churches lament the empty pews. What is is that keeps people away, even those who say that they do believe in God? Isn't Sunday worship service celebrating the ressurection of Christ? The essence of our being in Christ? But if that is so, why are believers not coming in larger numbers.
Do we need new forms of celebrating worship, or will those just attract people for some time and pass as fashions do? Do we need to look to liturgies of the past that should be reconsidered and possibly reformed rather than discarded. What is Worship, we asked and what place does it hold in people's lives today and in our various countries in Europe. More questions than answers, and so we would love for you to comment and even more: we would like for Theology students from all over Europe to come and participate in our conference.
