Ist Glück Glückssache? - Is happiness a matter of luck?

Heute ging unser Jugendseminar zum Thema Glück zu Ende. Es war so spannend und interessant, dass ich erst jetzt dazu komme, hier etwas zu schreiben, und das soll kein Eigenlob sein, denn die Hauptpersonen waren die TeilnehmerInnen aus Deutschland, der Schweiz, Lettland, der Ukraine und Rumänien. Das beste waren wohl wieder einmal die Länderberichte; die fünf UnkrainerInnen hatten nicht nur einen Film über Ihre Stadt Charkow mitgebracht sondern auch eine Interviewserie zum Thema Glück selbst gefilmt. Unsere Kulturen und die Bedingungen des täglichen Lebens sind in Vielem ganz unterschiedlich, aber wir haben vielgemeinsames entdeckt. Ohne Liebe und Freundschaft, ohne Selbstvertrauen und Anerkennung, ohne Glauben, fehlt uns alles etwas Wesentliches zum Glück.

Today, we finished our youth seminar on Happiness. It was so very interesting and impressive that I found no time to sit down and post something earlier. And I don’t mean to praise my own work, because it was the participants that made this a most remarkable experience. They came from Germany, Switzerland, Latvia, Romania and Ukraine. The best was as usual the evening with the reports from the countries: the five people from Ukraine had not only brought a film of their home city Charkow but had also prepared a series of interviews with people on their idea of happiness. Our cultures and our ways of life may be quite different, but we found much in common: Without love, friendship, self-confidence and recognition, without faith, we cannot be truly happy.
