Ein Pfarrer in Siebenbürgen hat mich vor ein paar Wochen darauf hingewiesen,
dass das biblische Wort für Liebe ein Tätigkeitswort ist.
Yesterday was the last
day of our Bible Dialog for church elders. Our small group had lively
discussion on how far congregations need to adjust to today’s expectations and where
we might risk disappearing altogether in zeitgeist, when we become
unrecognizable. A visit at “Berliner Stadtmission” showed us how works of
charity are a valid and necessary way of living the word of god in today’s society.
Of course our congregations are no big institutions but the examples of social
contributions from volunteer support of charity organisations to church asylum
and helping refugees are no less precious and also living expression of the
Gospel.
A minister in Transylvania told me a few weeks ago that the word Love in the Bible is a verb not a noun. Something to do, not something that just exists.
