Tamara
Even if our youth seminar GIVE PEACE A CHANCE doesn't begin until Thursday afternoon, the team and I as well as the school class in Austria have been preparing for a while. I posted some posters from a competition at a history festival to remember the first world war. These are the two main points in our seminar: how we think of wars, not only those in the past, and what we can do to create peace. We wil be 30 people, mostly students from Germany, Austria, Ukraine, Romania and Hungary. It would be great if others also commented and sent their thoughts via blog comment or on facebook.
Greetings from Berlin
Tamara

GEMEINDE LEBEN - Living church
Yesterday was the last
day of our Bible Dialog for church elders. Our small group had lively
discussion on how far congregations need to adjust to today’s expectations and where
we might risk disappearing altogether in zeitgeist, when we become
unrecognizable. A visit at “Berliner Stadtmission” showed us how works of
charity are a valid and necessary way of living the word of god in today’s society.
Of course our congregations are no big institutions but the examples of social
contributions from volunteer support of charity organisations to church asylum
and helping refugees are no less precious and also living expression of the
Gospel.
A minister in Transylvania told me a few weeks ago that the word Love in the Bible is a verb not a noun. Something to do, not something that just exists.

GEMEINDE LEBEN - LIVING CONGREGATION
Today we begin a Bible Dialogue for Elders and presbyters in our congregations. We will look at the the question of proclaiming the Gospel and how it can never be only in the Sunday serman, but in every part of parish life, how our congregation shines intot he world and how we interact with others in the community. We are not only on Sundays Christians but every day of the week so our claims have to be livable in daily life if we are to be authentic. I know a numer of people who have turned their backs to their church because some individuals have disappointed them. Expectations are still high, but are they too high or do they go in an altogether "wrong" direction?
