ALL WORK AND NO PLAY

Yesterday we finished the Berlin Seminar for young people. Most participants were in their twenties and they came from Germany, Latvia, Great Britain and Romania to exchange views on what work means in our lives - definitely more than just earning money - and what we would be willing to give up for a good job?  The participants had their doubts if an unconditional basic income may be something that could be impletemented in the nearer future, or even that is might ever really work in our society. But all agreed that values other than what money can buy do matter. And when asked to write down their "workday in 10 years" as they would hope it to be, quite a few chose to work less than they or their parents are working today. Less work but for how much less money? When asked how much money we would need to live a good life, the amounts mentioned were different depending on the country but also modest. Maybe time is money, but money can certainly not make up for time with friends or family.
