Wondrous diversity - wundersame Vielfalt

Yesterday was the last day of our international study conference for (mostly) theology students. 20 Students and a conference team from 11 different countries (European and African) and various denominations worked and lived together for the better part of 5 days on the topic of "Miracles and Laws, the freedom and limits of interpretation". We could experience how the diversity of our Christian faith with all its denominations and cultural differences is a great gift. Every culture, every denomination has something to contribute to our search of the truth. Julian guided us through the Bible following the tracks of the commandment not to commit adultery, showed us how even in the Bible interpretations have always changed. And so interpretations need to live with the times without losing the heart of the message. The people, who heard Moses speak, lived in a world much different from ours. The world of Lithuania or Switzerland today is not much like the world in Romania or in Ghana. And yet, the Bible can speak to all of us: the Israelites in the desert, the crowds who listened to Jesus' Sermon on the Mount - and us today. We read the Bible in different ways, but by discussing the Holy Texts together, we notice how it is often our personal background that determines our interpretation and that there is sometimes more than one way to understand a text. And so the Bible doesn't just grace us with a glimpse of Truth, it allows us the freedom to discover the wealth of diversity.

  2. what a time it was to discuss about Miracles in an age of scientific and technological advancement! for me meeting different people with different experiences and backgrounds coming together to discuss on "Miracles" was fascinating and important. it offered the opportunity to explore the perspectives of other people on what appears common to all. Of course this Dialogue Conference offered the opportunity to not only encounter new people with different views but importantly to make new friends from across the world. It was a good time spent and I can't wait for the next edition in July 2016. May God keep us till then.
