A Soul for Europe - Eine Seele für Europa

Gestern begann unser Bibeldialog mit der Gemeinschaft Evangelischer Kirchen in Europa (GEKE). Teilnehmende aus Deutschland, den Niederlanden, der Tschechischen Republik, der Slowakei, Ungarn und Rumänien kamen zusammen um nach Möglichkeiten zu suchen, ein Europa zu leben, das mehr ist als ein Wirtschaftssystem, in dem die Vielfalt unserer Kulturen und Traditionen als Reichtum erlebt wird. Nicht nur die Länder der EU, sondern alle Länder Europas. Heute Morgen überlegten wir, ob wir uns ein passenderes Symbol für Europa vorstellen könnten als den Kreis aus 12 goldenen Sternen auf blauem Grund. Ein Vorschlag von einem Teilnehmer: Vielleicht könnten die Sterne viele Farben haben, um die Vielfalt zu betonen?

Yesterday we began our Bible Dialogue with the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) and participants from Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and Romania, young and old (but young at heart), the participants are trying to find a way to live a European spirit that is more than just an economic system. The diversity of the many nations that are now part of the European Union and those that are not yet part of it or may never be, can be a great treasure, but we need to respect the differences instead of letting them divide us. Maybe as Christians we can see our Faith as a common ground. This morning we discussed whether we would refer a different symbol for Europe, other than the circle of 12 golden stars on blue ground. While we liked the circle and the blue, one suggestion made me think: Maybe the stars should be of many different colours to symbolise the diversity of cultures and traditions in Europe.
