Dankt dem Herrn, ruft seine Namen an... Thank the Lord, call his name...

Doris aus Essen ist Pfarrerin im Ruhestand und als Teilnehmerin seit vielen Jahren den Bibeldialogen verbunden. Vor ein paar Jahren hat sie uns mit ihren Kontakten zum Bosnischen Verein Putevi Mira eine neue Perspektive in unserer Arbeit geschenkt: den Blick auf einen seit Jahrhunderten schon europäischen Islam, den Blick über die Grenzen der EU hinweg zu den Schwestern und Brüdern in Bosnien und Herzegowina. Dass wir in 2021, wenn Corona es möglich sein lässt, in Bosnien unseren Bibeldialog halten wollen, haben wir auch Doris zu verdanken (und natürlich Mevlida, Sadija, Cima…). Und Doris schenkt uns für das heute Adventstürchen unseres Blogs eine Andacht:

Dankt dem Herrn! Ruft seinen Namen an!
Macht unter den Völkern seine Taten bekannt! (1 Chronik 16,8)

Ich möchte einmal folgenden Mut haben:
Ein Mensch kommt zu mir und klagt: Ich bin am Ende. Was raten Sie mir?
Und ich sage: 3 Schritte gehe noch – Danke Gott! Rufe ihn an! Mache seine Taten unter den Völkern bekannt!
Ich weiss, diese Frau und dieser Mann werden entsetzt sein, mich als kalt, herzlos ansehen. Aber gehen wir die Schritte, werden wir es spüren:
Danken – ich erfahre, der Punkt, an dem ich jetzt stehe, ist nicht alles in meinem Leben. Es gibt viel mehr; eine Fülle ist in mir. Ich warte auf die Kraft, die mich weitet. Ich will es. Ich schaffe es. Es ist mir versprochen! Da ist gerade jetzt das Angebot zuzupacken.
Anrufen – ich erfahre, ich bin nicht allein. In dem scheinbar leeren Raum wartet man auf mich. Ich bin nicht abgeschrieben. Vorurteile lösen dich auf ins Nichts, auch meine eigenen.
Bekanntmachen – ich rede; laut und deutlich. Ich stehe da. Hier bin ich, Gott. Aufrecht, vertrauend. Deine Geschöpfe umgeben mich. Alle Völker haben einen Raum bei Gott.
Lasst uns gemeinsam von dieser Zusage die Gegenwart anträumen.

*** Doris from Essen is a retired pastor and has been a participant in our Bible dialogues for some years. A few years ago, by her contacts to the Bosnian NGO Putevi Mira, she gave brought a new perspective to our work: a glance at an Islam that has been at home in Europe for centuries, a glance past the borders of the EU to see our brothers and sisters in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We may even hold a Bible Dialogue in Dubica in 2021 (if the Corona-situation allows it) and we owe this chance to Doris (and of course to Mevlida, Sadija, Cima…). Doris gave us the text for a devotion for our Advent-Calendar-Blog: 

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done! (1 Chronicles 16,8)

For once, I would like to have this courage:
Imagine, a person comes to me and says: I can’t go on anymore. What shall I do?
And I say: There are three steps you need to take –
Thank God!
Call his name!
Tell all people about God’s great deeds!
I just know this person will think me cold and heartless. But let us GO these steps and we will feel it:
Giving Thanks – I feel that the moment where I am right now isn’t all my life. There is so much more, a wealth inside me. I wait for the power that makes my heart wide. I want it. I can do it. It was promised to me. And right now, there is this offer to take up that promise.
Calling to God – I can feel that I am not alone. In a seemingly empty space, there is someone waiting for me. I am not abandoned. Prejudice disappears, as does my own.
Talking about God’s great deeds – I speak, loud and clear. Here I stand, God. Upright and trusting. Your creatures surround me. All nations have a space with God.
Let us dream our way towards this promise.
